Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS)

The Gibb Challenge is intent upon supporting regional charities with regional relevance and demonstrated integrity. In 2020, our event has again selected the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) to be the principal beneficiary of our celebrated community event. It's a near perfect fit in terms of regional relevance and organisational integrity.

The RFDS is extremely proud and grateful to have been selected as the principal beneficiary of the 2020 Gibb Challenge.

In the past the Gibb Challenge has raised in excess of $2.3M for the RFDS. These vital funds have contributed towards our life-saving operations in the Kimberley region, most recently assisting in the construction of our new Broome facilities, and redevelopment of our Derby facility.

Today the RFDS, Western Australia, assist over 27,000 people through aero medical retrievals and primary healthcare clinics, and provides advice and assistance to a further 37,600 people through our telehealth service.

The demand for our services is constantly growing with the RFDS receiving close to 40,000 calls for help in Western Australia alone last financial year. We flew over 9,000 patients across our vast 2.5 million square kilometer state and provided many more with expert medical advice over the telephone or radio. On average our medical teams provide ICU level care in flight to 24 patients per day. That’s one person every hour of the day.

The level of demand for our life saving services presents the RFDS with ongoing challenges in not only being there whenever and wherever patients need us, but also in gaining the necessary levels of resources we need for the future.

We rely on support from the local community to purchase and medically-equip our aircraft, which is why we are so fortunate to have support from the Gibb Challenge.

By supporting the RFDS, you’ll directly help us deliver emergency medical services and primary health care to those living, working and travelling throughout Western Australia.

We need your support and together, we’ll achieve great things.
